Loved viewing these cleverly cut dress drapes in the Drawing room or ‘Fragonard’ room at the Frick residence, 5th Ave, NYC over Easter weekend. The Italian strung effect is in fact created by cleverly placed pleats (in the same style as the outside edges of swags) at the points of the upper passementerie tassel tiebacks, seamed in to the break point. This minimises the fullness in the ‘leg o mutton’ side panels and shapes the inside half swagged effect to the leading edges. Great up close viewing vantage for those interested in pattern cutting (though you might have to dodge the evil eye of the attendants and the subsequent barked orders if you break the law by leaning in an inch too far). I obviously got in to huge trouble and almost had to spend a night in the slammer.
